An Important Day

One day to year and a half birthday and first day of school, the very first one! To mark this important day, I put the school t-shirt on him and took these photos of him in the park.

And some videos. Randall can take half of the credit for the drinking video, for he actually asked me to pick up the camera while he was posing like a movie star.

Boston Highlights

  1. Tremendous fun with the puddles. Just couldn’t have enough!
  2. First visit to the aquarium. Loved the seals and the penguins. Saw a lot of weird looking fish, and turtles too!
  3. Had a nice dinner at Little Italy with mommy’s friend. Expressed my agreement to his words with my first “hehe” sound. The electric candle was fascinating, almost as good as the dinner. Well, I could have left him a perfect impression if my poop hadn’t come out of the diaper. Will do better next time.
  4. Invented a new way of drinking orange juice, so mom called it “orange soup”.
  5. The Harvard campus was fabulous! They had so many nice colorful chairs and so many group visitors that I was so fond of running into. Mommy got me a Harvard coat.
  6. Met “Gan Die” for the first time, and received a “Jian Mian Li” from him. Loved his bed with his girlfriend’s dress on it.
  7. Last but not least, the three-and-a-half-hour train trips weren’t easy for mommy and daddy, so I got to play with their cell phones as much as I liked. Guess that treat won’t last though…

The Musical Nature

Randall started to dance to the music even before he started walking, but it’s always been hard to catch him dancing on camera. He has become more aware of the camera and turns shy when he notices that I am trying to shoot a video. I have read a few articles on baby development and I know it’s common for baby to start dancing at this age. It’s also true that we adults love music too, and it often helps to put on some nice music when we are feeling bad. However, it still amazes me what a magical effect music has on such little kids.

At around six months, Randall learned to press the button of his crib toy so that he could watch his animal friends spinning over his head and listen to its music, which would then put him to a sound sleep. About the same time, he started to resist diaper changing with his worst cries (well, he still does), so we had to distract him with all kinds of toys we could find. But sometimes he would still get impatient or frustrated, until later we found that singing to him was the best way to keep him happy on the changing table. When he turned 12 months, he had his first dance by moving his hips up and down to the rhythm. Later on he picked up some more sophisticated movements such as shaking his head and turning around in circles. One of the things he enjoyed most before getting obsessed with the nursery-song videos was turning on the music of his toys and dancing to it.

Magic Word

Ran Ran is now able to climb on the sofa, and for sure he loves it. Today I just decided to make a video of his funny climbing movements. But video taking is now a tough job for you have to find something to distract him from the camera. Cell phone did the trick this time, but again he became too focused to attend to my kind requests. I kept asking him to climb on the sofa but was ignored. As a last-ditch effort, I said:”I’ll let you watch TV if you can just go sit on the sofa”. And that, all of a sudden, worked…
